- Honorary assignment to "Old Ironsides" aka U.S.S. Constitution. Old Ironsides is the United States oldest commissioned and most famous Warship. One of seven battleships the United States first commissioned in the 1790's to fight the Barbary Pirates in the Mediterranean Sea around 1803-1807. Ironsides is most noted for sinking the famous British Warship the HMS Guerriere in the Battle of 1812. Old Ironsides is now stationed in Boston, Mass. and open for guided tours.
